UCF Football: 3 reasons Scott Frost should be 2017 Coach of the Year
By Zach Bigalke
There should be no question about who is the Coach of the Year in 2017. Here are three reasons why Scott Frost deserved the award.
2017 was witness to great coaching performances all around the country during this college football season. Choosing one is usually difficult, but it shouldn’t be this year.
Sure, Kirby Smart led Georgia to its first SEC title since 2005 and has the Bulldogs in the College Football Playoff. So too does Lincoln Riley in just his first year at the helm of a program, having taken over for Bob Stoops at Oklahoma and maintained the level of success that has been a staple in Norman.
The usual suspects had great seasons. Urban Meyer won the Big Ten at Ohio State. Nick Saban has Alabama in a fourth straight College Football Playoff. Dabo Swinney has Clemson on target to repeat as national champions.
But the best coach of 2017 didn’t hail from one of the major conferences. Instead, the honor decisively belongs to the man who took a team that went 0-12 in the year before his arrival and led them to the promised land of a New Year’s Six berth two years later.
Nothing against the slew of great coaches around the country, but Coach of the Year honors unequivocally belong to Scott Frost in 2017. Here are three reasons why Frost, who led UCF to a conference title and a perfect season, was the best leader in college football this season.
