Arkansas football hired Chad Morris on Wednesday afternoon and it was a great move for the program as he will make the Razorbacks contenders.

When Gus Malzahn signed an extension with Auburn, the Arkansas Razorbacks knew that they needed to widen their coaching search. They did just that and Chad Morris looked to be the favorite. The SMU coach, who had led Clemson’s offense four years ago, has done a tremendous job with the Mustangs and the athletic department felt he was a good fit.

On Wednesday afternoon, it was reported that Morris and Arkansas agreed on a deal that would make him the next head coach and replace Bret Bielema. This is good news for the Razorbacks as he can make this program relevant again. Actually, he can do more than make Arkansa relevant, he can have it contending for titles.

Why will Arkansas’ hiring of Morris make the Razorbacks contenders?

3. Incredible offensive mind

It deserves to be said: Chad Morris learned quite a bit from his time as Clemson’s offensive coordinator from 2011-14. The Tigers were an average team prior to Morris’ arrival and during his time as the offensive coordinator and quarterbacks coach, he helped lead them to a 42-11 record.

Arkansas struggled under Bret Bielema despite the former head coach succeeding in Madison as the Wisconsin Badgers’ lead man. He didn’t have quite the offensive mind that Morris brings to the table which helped him make SMU a relevant program again.

If Morris can help lead Clemson out of mediocrity and into the national spotlight as well as SMU from 2-10 to 7-5 just two years later, imagine what he can do with Arkansas’ offense.

The Razorbacks are getting a coach who led the SMU Mustangs from nowhere near bowl eligible and difficult to watch to the 13th-best offensive attack in the country. Arkansas should be excited with what Morris brings to the table.
