Texas A&M Football: 5 best bowl games of all-time for the Aggies
A win for Texas A&M football in the Belk Bowl would add to a rich history of 39 bowl games for the Aggies, starting with the 1922 Dixie Classic.
Texas A&M football takes on the Wake Forest Demon Deacons in the Belk Bowl after a seven win regular season. Bank of America Stadium is the sight of the first game for the Aggies under interim head coach Jeff Banks.
All-time, Texas A&M is 17-21 in postseason play, going all the way back to the 1921 Dixie Classic. With nine straight bowl appearances, including the Belk Bowl bid this year, the Aggies are a common program seen in postseason play in the last decade.
However, bowl eligibility is far below the basic expectation out of the Aggies fan base. Exhibit A of this showed when Texas A&M parted with head coach Kevin Sumlin after the loss in the final regular season game, against the LSU Tigers.
While the Aggies did hire former Florida State Seminoles head coach Jimbo Fisher to a massive 10 year, $75 million deal, he will not coach in the bowl game. If the Aggies get the victory over Wake Forest, it would be the fourth consecutive eight win season.
That kind of consistency of putting Texas A&M just slightly above mediocrity, under Sumlin, made the fan base yearn to reach that next level. Texas A&M wants to and expects to be playing in the New Year’s Six Bowls, or at least some of the better Power Five bowls like the Citrus Bowl.
The Aggies have a rich history of postseason appearances, including one that resulted in a National Championship. There’s a chance to rack up the 18th bowl win in the program’s history, on Dec. 29.
Here are the five best bowl games of all-time for the Texas A&M Aggies.
