This bowl victory for the Aggies came after a three game postseason losing streak and preceded another five game postseason losing streak. It was a special win for Texas A&M, over a solid Michigan Wolverines squad from the Big Ten.
Even though this game was only a two point victory for the Aggies, they actually had a more comfortable win than it looked. A 44 yard touchdown pass from Michigan quarterback Brian Griese, to star wide receiver Amani Toomer pulled the Wolverines within two points.
However, it was too little too late for a star laden Wolverines squad. The 1995 Alamo Bowl win was huge for Texas A&M since the Aggies entered as a fairly heavy underdog against a nine win Michigan squad with future NFL stars lining the offense.
Aggies kicker Kyle Bryant was the most valuable player in the game, since he kicked five field goals successfully. It kept Griese and Toomer far enough behind in the second half to control the game. This was also one of the bigger victories of then head coach R.C. Slocum’s tenure in College Station.
