Oklahoma Football: Baker Mayfield dominates 2017 awards night
Baker Mayfield had himself a heck of a night as the Oklahoma football star dominated most major awards, taking home some hardware.
Saturday is the big day for Oklahoma football’s Baker Mayfield, but Thursday night wasn’t all that bad either. The senior quarterback took home some major hardware during college football’s annual award night as he was named the Davey O’Brien Award winner, Maxwell Offensive Player of the Year and Walter Camp Player of the Year.
This shouldn’t come as much of a surprise as the Sooners’ star passed for 4,340 yards, 41 touchdowns and five interceptions during the 2017 season and was clearly the best quarterback in college football.
Although the Heisman Trophy winner won’t be announced until Saturday, it will likely be a formality as Mayfield has dominated just about every aspect of the game this season. Not only has he put up video game-like numbers for Oklahoma, but he led the Sooners to a Big 12 title, 12-1 record and a spot in the College Football Playoff.
Mayfield has torched just about every opponent he faced during the 2017 season and closed the year with 13 touchdowns and no interceptions in his final four games.
He beat out JT Barrett from Ohio State and Oklahoma State’s Mason Rudolph for the Davey O’Brien Award and the Walter Camp Award is given to the AP’s player of the year. The last Oklahoma quarterback to win Davey O’Brien was Sam Bradford back in 2008 — he also won the Heisman.

This awards night representation likely proves Mayfield is the nation’s top player and inevitable Heisman Trophy winner on Saturday.
