A career best season for UCLA football quarterback Josh Rosen makes him the easy selection for the most valuable player on the Bruins roster this season.

UCLA football had an up and down run in the final season with head coach Jim Mora in Westwood. The spark plug for the Bruins offense the entire season was junior quarterback Josh Rosen. The UCLA defense had trouble stopping most opposing offenses.

Yet, Rosen solidified himself as pretty much a guaranteed top 10 pick in the 2018 NFL Draft if he decides to declare early. Some expect Rosen to actually be the first quarterback picked in the upcoming NFL Draft. However, USC’s Sam Darnold or Wyoming’s Josh Allen could end up being the first quarterback selected.

Rosen had his best year during his three-year tenure with the Bruins in 2017, with 3,717 passing yards. If he decides to play in the 2017 Cactus Bowl against the Kansas State Wildcats, Rosen can eclipse the 4,000 yard mark for the first time in his college career.

In only 11 games played, Rosen tossed 26 touchdowns to just 10 interceptions. Rosen was left scrambling to keep the Bruins in some games this year, since UCLA got involved in some shootouts. He also elevated the play of wide receivers Darren Andrews and Jordan Lasley. Sophomore tight end Caleb Wilson had solid production through five games, until a foot injury ended his season.

The 2017 campaign finished in great fashion for Bruins. He led UCLA to a big win over the Cal Golden Bears on Nov. 24, which helped the team reach bowl eligibility. In the final two games of the regular season, against Cal and the USC Trojans, Rosen tossed five touchdowns with one pick.

Rosen was one of the best quarterbacks in the PAC-12 in 2017. He’s not likely to return to Westwood in 2018, in Chip Kelly‘s first year as head coach. Yet, he’ll go down as one of the most talented quarterbacks in UCLA football history.
