Army Football: 3 takeaways from comeback win over Navy
By Zach Bigalke
1. Army growing up as a mid-major independent
In winning its second straight Army-Navy Game, Jeff Monken’s team continued its growth in year four under the former Georgia Southern head coach. Monken has instilled a ground-based assault that is in keeping with the service-academy football tradition.
This season, Army led the country in rushing offense. Navy held the Black Knights to just 221 rushing yards, more than 150 yards below their season average. But offense was at a premium on a weather-beaten day, and quarterback Ahmad Bradshaw came up big where Zach Abey faltered.
Bradshaw ran 21 times for 94 yards and a touchdown. He added a 20-yard pass completion in the second half on his only passing attempt of the day. He also benefited from a solid performance by Darnell Woolfolk, who ran 12 times for 57 yards and the opening score.

While Malcolm Perry ran for more yardage than the entire Army team, the Black Knights made more of their opportunities. They are rewarded with a shot at the first 10-win season in West Point in over two decades.
