With the 2018 slate for Texas A&M football doing the Aggies and head coach Jimbo Fisher no favors, what are some realistic expectations?

Texas A&M football is now getting settled with the hire of former Florida State head coach Jimbo Fisher. With the 2017 Belk Bowl, against the Wake Forest Demon Deacons, still on tap before the end of the year, there’s still some business left to take care of for the Aggies.

Competing in the SEC West is a tall task that few are able to accomplish. With head coach Nick Saban at the helm with the Alabama Crimson Tide, it’s hard for any other team to consistently in the title picture on a regular basis. The Auburn Tigers, LSU Tigers, and Georgia Bulldogs put up a good fight this year, but the Tide tends to rule all.

Georgia was able to win the SEC this year and make the program’s first ever appearance in the College Football Playoff. With second-year head coach and former Alabama defensive coordinator Kirby Smart taking the Dawgs to new heights, it gives hope to the new round of SEC coaches in 2018.

Fisher is not the only first-year head coach slated to start in 2018. The Arkansas Razorbacks, Tennessee Volunteers, Florida Gators, Mississippi State Bulldogs, and the Ole Miss Rebels will all have first-year full-time head coaches. Matt Luke was the interim with Ole Miss in 2017, but he starts as the locked in head coach for the Rebels in 2018.

Texas A&M was able to land the most high profile head coach of any team in the SEC this year. Chad Morris with the Hogs and Dan Mullen with the Gators were solid hires as well. Few expected Fisher to ever leave Florida State before the start of the season.

However, Fisher should be able to help the Aggies take the next step up in the SEC West next year. Here are five realistic expectations for Fisher with the Aggies in his first season.
