DXL Frisco Bowl

Louisiana Tech vs. SMU

Location: Frisco, Texas
Date: Wednesday, Dec. 20
Time: 8 p.m. ET

Losing a head coach before a postseason game is never easy, just as SMU (7-5). The Mustangs just watched head coach Chad Morris accept the job with Arkansas and that might be bad news moving forward. However, they didn’t get to be one of the top offenses (12th) in college football without any remaining talent. All eyes will be on Ben Hicks, Trey Quinn and Courtland Sutton.

Louisiana Tech (6-6) had an up-and-down season and will get an opportunity to finish on the positive side of things with a win in the Frisco Bowl. They have a much better defense than the Mustangs, but the offense averages nearly 100 yards less per game. Can rising sophomore quarterback J’Mar Smith lead this team to an upset?

It seems as if SMU’s offense may just be too high-powered for Louisiana Tech, and that may be the case, but not having Morris around will be quite the adjustment. The Mustangs will struggle early on, but pull off a comeback thanks to strong games from Hicks at quarterback and his two 1,000-yard receivers. This will be an instant classic.

Prediction: Louisiana Tech 35, SMU 38
