The 2017 Boca Raton Bowl was close for a quarter, but Lane Kiffin and the FAU Owls turned up the intensity and ran away from Akron.

Lane Kiffin was rumored to have a 10-year deal being worked on to stay with Florida Atlantic earlier on Tuesday afternoon and in the evening, the head coach led the Owls to a 50-3 rout of the Akron Zips in the Boca Raton Bowl.

Although it may have been as close to a home game as any bowl this postseason for the Owls, they looked like one of the most improved teams in the country and Kiffin must be the one to thank for the turnaround.

The Owls improved to 11-3 with a big win, adding to an already-impressive season which also saw them grab the conference title. Kiffin proved his worth with the 11-3 season, showing that he can win just about anywhere, despite the negative attention he can sometimes attract.

Why does he attract the negative attention? A lot of it can be due to his social media presence where he tries to get likes rather than act professional most of the time. He’s hilarious, but sometimes he needs to know when to reel it in.

Still, Kiffin has proven to be one of the best up-and-coming coaches in the nation and is coming around after shuffling from the Oakland Raiders to Tennessee to USC and then Alabama’s offensive coordinator. Although a 10-year deal with FAU is rumored, don’t expect him to remain with the Owls for a decade.

Kiffin’s phone will be ringing off the hook for the next couple of years, especially if he can lead the Owls to another 10-win season in 2018.
