Michigan Football: 3 early signees who’ll have instant impact in 2018
With Michigan football looking to win the Big Ten in 2018, here are three early signees who will have the biggest immediate impact for the Wolverines.
There has been a slight panic emerging around Ann Arbor these days. Not necessarily because Michigan finished in fourth place in the Big Ten East, but rather because the Wolverines didn’t sign their typical top-10 recruiting class.
With the early signing period coming in December this season, there’s still plenty of time before the other National Signing Day to reel in more top targets, but Jim Harbaugh has been hearing it from his fan base. Michigan hasn’t quite been a power on the recruiting trail like in recent years, but this class isn’t a pushover, by any means.
Which three early signees for Michigan will have the biggest immediate impact in 2018?
Cameron McGrone could very well be the best player in Michigan’s 2018 class before his career in Ann Arbor is over. He’s a strong outside linebacker with the potential to be a starter within his first couple of seasons.
The Indianapolis-native is perfect for Don Brown’s defense as he can be a solid blitzing linebacker for the Wolverines, lining up next to the end and going full-throttle at opposing quarterbacks. The Wolverines are losing just Mike McCray and Noah Furbush at the outside linebacker positions this offseason, but McGrone could still come in and compete right away.
It’d be a shock to see him left off the two-deep depth chart once fall ball comes around as he’s talented, athletic and aggressive. He is quick off the snap and reads plays with computer-like intelligence. His blitzing ability is what sets him apart.
McGrone ranks as the No. 32 overall player in the class and is the fourth-best outside linebacker, according to 247Sports.
