Michigan Football: 3 early signees who’ll have instant impact in 2018
Michigan didn’t sign a single tight end in its 2017 recruiting class after missing on some top targets, so Jim Harbaugh knew that it was a major position of need. What’d he do? He just went out and snagged the No. 5 tight end in the 2018 class.
On top of that, former four-star commit from 2016, Devin Asiasi, had committed to Michigan but transferred to UCLA to be closer to home. This left a major void at the tight end position and that void will only grow larger with the departure of Ian Bunting this offseason.
Zach Gengtry returns and Nick Eubanks, Sean McKeon and Tyrone Wheatley are also present, but Mustafa Muhammad has the potential to shoot up the depth chart. Moreover, the Wolverines run plenty of two-tight end sets and that means more of an opportunity for the four-star Texas-native to see the field.

The 6-foot-4, 235-pound tight end fits the new-age mold at the position, running routes like a receiving and possessing the ability to get vertical, but Harbaugh will need him to improve his blocking skill set as well. He’s listed as the No. 135 overall player in the class, according to the 247Sports composite.
