Texas Tech Football vs. USF: 5 bold predictions for Birmingham Bowl
By Zach Bigalke
USF goes for another 10-win season in 2017 when they face Texas Tech football in the Birmingham Bowl. Here are five bold predictions for the Legion Field showdown.
South Florida was the darling of the preseason. The Bulls were the favorite of most to win the American Athletic Conference, run the table, and earn the Group of Five bowl bid into one of the New Year’s Six games. Things didn’t quite work out that way, as they fell late in the year to Houston and UCF.
Last year, the Bulls entered bowl season with an identical 10-2 record. Last year, a head-to-head defeat served as the difference between a division title and a trip to an earlier bowl game. After taking down South Carolina last year in an exciting 46-39 finish at the Birmingham Bowl, USF is returning to Legion Field for a second straight season.
This time, they take on Kliff Kingsbury‘s Texas Tech squad. Much like South Carolina last year, the Red Raiders barely reached bowl eligibility in 2017. They pulled out a 27-23 win over Texas on the final weekend of the regular season to secure a sixth win and passage to the postseason.
One is a Group of Five dynamo looking to finish strong after losing its previous game to a heated rival with the AAC East crown on the line. The other is a Big 12 squad whose head coach at his alma mater who has come under some heat from the fan base for meeting only the barest of expectations during his tenure.
How will things transpire in the Magic City as USF squares off against the Red Raiders? Will the Texas Tech prevail, or will they get overrun by the Bulls? Here are five bold predictions to get you ready for Saturday’s game.
