Texas Tech Football: 3 Takeaways from Birmingham Bowl loss to USF
By Shelbie Warr
The Birmingham Bowl was an instant classic. It was a close call, but South Florida got a last minute win against Texas Tech football.
Texas Tech held their own and it was a game until the final second, but South Florida got a huge touchdown with less that 20 seconds left to put them up four and lock up the game for the Bulls. The Bulls won, 38-34, to improve to 10-2 on the season while Texas Tech fell to 6-7, another losing season.
Here are my takeaways from the instant classic that was the Birmingham Bowl.
3. Keke Coutee proved he is one of the best Texas Tech has to offer
Coutee, a junior wide out for the Red Raiders, finished with 11 receptions for 187 yards and a touchdown. He averaged 17 yards a catch in the Birmingham Bowl. He showed that, despite many doubting him, Texas Tech’s offense has the ability to compete with anyone in the country and Coutee was a big part of that this season.
It is unknown if Coutee will enter the NFL Draft or return for his senior season. However, whatever he chooses, he has been a huge part of this team and will be appreciated by the Red Raider faithful. His 1,200 receiving yards for the season and 11 touchdowns were a big part of the Red Raider push for the bowl and could push his draft stock up to the second or third round.
