Wisconsin Football: Nick Nelson returning to Badgers?
Wisconsin football star cornerback Nick Nelson hinted at a possible return to school via his Instagram live video posted Friday night.
The Wisconsin Badgers’ defense in 2017 was one of the best units in all of college football. While injuries in the front seven created skepticism throughout the year, the consistency and reliability of the secondary was what allowed the entire defensive team to mesh together so well.
Leading the charge in the secondary was, and still is, junior cornerback Nick Nelson. It was unsure how the Hawaii transfer would fit in to the defensive backfield, but quickly he shut up any doubt as he became one of the best lockdown corners in all of college football.
Nelson led the Badgers during the 2017 regular season with 20 pass breakups, ten more than the person in second place which was safety Natrell Jamerson. At first, Nelson seemed like an easy target with fellow lockdown corner Derrick Tindal on the other side, which could have been the reason for all the breakups. Yet, for some reasonm teams continued to throw towards Nelson and he continued to show his lockdown prowess.
Also in 2017, Nelson had one punt return, which proved to be the catalyst for the team’s 24-10 win over Michigan in late November. His punt return was the first score of the game.
Following the team’s Big Ten Championship loss, there were rumblings Nelson would try to capitalize on his outstanding year and test his luck in the NFL Draft. Many publications jumped to conclusions and announced he would be leaving Wisconsin.
With still one game remaining in the Orange Bowl against Miami, Nelson shut down those rumors.

While no decision is expected to be announced until after the team’s bowl game, Nelson hinted at a possible return to Madison next year, via his Instagram.
While it can only be seen for a short time and on a mobile device, Nelson made an Instagram live video just for fun- taking questions from friends and fans. One user asked Nelson if he was going the NFL. Nelson responded,
“I’m not going to the NFL, I am coming back to college.”
Of course, this can not be taken as anything more as online social media chatter, Wisconsin fans have to like any indication that their shutdown corner will be returning to Madison next season.
