Louisville landed a very versatile safety in four-star St. Thomas Aquinas product Trenell Troutman. With experience on both sides of the ball, Troutman brings an incredible amount of athleticism and utility to the Louisville roster.

The two starting safeties for the Cardinals, senior Zykiesis Cannon and redshirt senior Chucky Williams, are both gone after the TaxSlayer Bowl. And, one of the safeties backing them up is only going to be a rising sophomore come the 2018 campaign.

Petrino would be smart to give Troutman the chance in his first year with the program. Troutman is the second-highest rated commit in the class, and one of only two four-star signees. There is one four-star hard commit, in wide receiver Manuel Allen.

Moreover, Troutman received offers from 14 schools including big time programs like the Miami Hurricanes and the Michigan State Spartans. Miami was the favorite to get him before he committed to Louisville back in the summer of 2016.
