Penn State Football: 5 reasons Nittany Lions will beat Washington in Fiesta Bowl
By Shane Lunnen
Penn State football is looking to cap off the 2017 season with a victory in the Fiesta Bowl against Washington.
The 2017 edition of Penn State football destroyed ten teams on their schedule by an average margin of 31 points. They lost two games by a total of four points and those two losses kept them out of the College Football Playoff. Nevertheless, they landed in the Fiesta Bowl against a quality Washington Huskies team.
Can the Nittany Lions pull off an eleventh victory and their first major bowl victory since 2005? Yes they can, and here are the reasons why.
5. Avoiding a bowl losing streak
In Penn State’s long history of bowls, they have compiled a 28-17-2 record and in the New Years Six bowls they have a record of 14-6-1. The Lions have never lost three bowl games in a row and will look to avoid it against Washington. In fact, Penn State has only lost back to back bowl games three times in their history.
The Lions have not won a major bowl game since the conclusion of the 2005 season with their triple overtime classic in the Orange Bowl against Florida State. Last year’s last second loss in the Rose Bowl against USC left a bad taste for many of the players. You can be sure the Lions will be looking for redemption and to send their seniors off in style with the program’s seventh Fiesta Bowl victory.
