In what could be the most important game of Tom Herman‘s career at Texas, his team brought a winning season and a whole new look to the Texas football program. Despite missing almost ten players on both sides of the ball, the Longhorns found a way to win. That is the start of a huge culture change for the Longhorns.

Here are three takeaways from the Longhorns’ win over the Missouri Tigers in the Academy Sports and Outdoors Texas Bowl.

3. Missouri got in its own way multiple times

At many points, the Missouri Tigers got in their own way and could not find a way to overcome that. They had four turnovers, two that resulted in points. The Tigers had over 70 yards of penalties, many of which gave new life to a seemingly dead Texas offense.

Each and every mistake basically killed the Tigers little by little and by the end they just couldn’t climb out of the hole they dug themselves into. This is an extremely talented and young football team. However, penalties and turnovers did not allow them to bring home a bowl victory for Drew Lock and company.
