2. Texas punter Michael Dickson was the team MVP

Earlier this week, Australian born and bred punter Michael Dickson declared for the 2018 NFL Draft. However, on Wednesday night, he was the undisputed MVP of the Texas Longhorns. He won the field position battle and as a result his team won the game.

He downed 10 of his 11 punts within the 20, eight were at or inside of the ten yard line. That doesn’t happen by accident, that is talent and deserves to be celebrated by his teammates and the media.

It does help that his quarterback was able to take care of the football and his team didn’t turn the ball over. That his defense was lights out against a strong offensive front in Missouri and Drew Lock. However, that doesn’t take away from the job that Dickson did against the Tigers and how he was able to keep Lock off balance pinning him so close to his own goal line.

Dickson will obviously not be the top pick or anything like that. He won’t be the biggest name from the draft in April. What he will be, however, is a steal for a team in 2018. He will be able to help a team turn things around because, in my opinion, field position and the establishment of it is a key to success.
