Northwestern Football: Clayton Thorson injures knee vs. Kentucky (Video)
After leading Northwestern football to one of its best seasons under Pat Fitzgerald, Clayton Thorson was carted off with a knee injury.
It’s been one of the best seasons for Northwestern football, Pat Fitzgerald and most notably Clayton Thorson. The junior quarterback from nearby Wheaton, Ill., needed just 191 yards in the Music City Bowl to break 3,000 on the year, but his day was cut short.
In fact, he was involved in a trick play which saw him run down the sideline for a reception, but he suffered a gruesome injury in the process.

The Wildcats eventually took a 10-7 lead after this play after watching their star quarterback carted off the field in emotional fashion. To this point, he was just 4-of-8 for 35 yards but it seemed to inject some life into the Wildcats who were down 7-3 at the time of the injury. He did catch the pass for 24 yards.
Northwestern is looking to finish the season with another 10-win season which has been somewhat rare under Fitzgerald. There hasn’t been any word on what the injury officially was, but being carted off the field definitely isn’t a good sign.

Thorson should return as one of the Big Ten’s best passers in 2018 after putting up some solid numbers. If he can return healthy, the Wildcats could be a force to be reckoned with in the Big Ten West, even with the loss of Justin Jackson.
