The 2017 Camping World Bowl win for Oklahoma State football over the Virginia Tech Hokies notched another 10-win season for the program.

Oklahoma State football capped off an up and down season with a solid bowl win over the Virginia Tech Hokies, on Dec. 28. Both the Pokes and Hokies entered the contest with nine wins, and each could accomplish at least back-to-back double-digit win seasons.

Under head coach Mike Gundy, Oklahoma State would notch its third consecutive 10-win season, and sixth in the last eight years. Meanwhile, second-year Virginia Tech head coach Justin Fuente was looking to add to a very solid start at the helm in Blacksburg.

Gundy’s squad entered the 2017 Camping World Bowl as six point favorites over the ACC representative Virginia Tech. However, both teams would have liked to see a better result this year than finishing up in the Camping World Bowl.

After defeating the star quarterback Will Grier and the Mountaineers in the season opener, Virginia Tech looked to be riding high behind freshman quarterback Josh Jackson. Moreover, Oklahoma State was a preseason top 10 team, and was ranked as high as No. 6 at one point, before losing to the TCU Horned Frogs at home.

This postseason was part of a very entertaining slate of Dec. 28 games. Senior Oklahoma State quarterback Mason Rudolph looked to round out his career in Stillwater the right way. He and senior All-American wide receiver James Washington put up video game numbers in the last three years with the Pokes.

In the game itself, Virginia Tech’s Jackson could not keep up with Rudolph. A costly interception to Pokes cornerback Darius Curry was costly enough to give away the game. Rudolph tossed two touchdowns, and racked up more than 350 passing yards. Oklahoma State came away with the 30-21 victory, with a big night from kicker Matt Ammendola.

Here’s three takeaways from Oklahoma State’s win over Virginia Tech in the 2017 Camping World Bowl.
