5. Auburn can keep up on offense

While UCF’s offense has undoubtedly been one of the best in the nation, many forget that Auburn’s has been right up there with them. For example, while one would quickly commend UCF for leading the league in points per game, it only takes a little more digging to realize that Auburn came in at 25th in the nation.

Now, points per game doesn’t always encompass the totality of an offense’s success, so it’s understandable to be skeptical. Here’s some more evidence. Since Auburn takes a run-heavy approach compared to UCF’s passing preference, we’ll leave out the passing/rushing comparisons for now. Here are some across the board stats that will give a good idea of the distance between both teams.

First, one of the stats that are most indicative of an offense’s success at driving the field is the yards per play statistic. While UCF is third in the nation in yards per play average, Auburn comes in at 25th with 6.3 YPP. Another telling statistic is the yards per game statistic. While UCF again leads Auburn at 5th in the nation, the Tigers come in at 26th, not bad for a team with such a strong defense.
