The greatest running back in Georgia football history is ready to go if his team needs him. Hershel Walker still holds the top spot in the Georgia record books with 5,259 career rushing yards in his three-year career that spanned 1980 to 1982.
During an appearance on ESPN’s College GameDay Walker said there was “no doubt” he could still carry the ball for his team:

Fortunately for head coach Kirby Smart and the Bulldogs, Walker’s help might not be needed. That’s because the Bulldogs may have the deepest backfield in school history.
Nick Chubb ranks second all time to Walker in career rushing yards with 4,599 yards. “Backup” Sony Michel ranks third all time with 3,334 rushing yards. It’s no surprise that the Bulldogs averaged 263.5 yards per game on the ground, 10th best in the nation.
Now former Penn State running back Saquon Barkley was also on the College GameDay set on New Year’s Day. He went out of his way to praise the Bulldogs’ third-string tailback D’Andre Swift. Barkley went as far to say that he expects Swift to be a top 10 draft pick some day.

Between Swift, Michel and Chub the Georgia backfield should have plenty of firepower when they meet Oklahoma at the Rose Bowl on New Year’s Day. The Bulldogs have relied on their deep stable of running backs all season and each of them will have their time to shine if Georgia is going to reach its first ever College Football Playoff National Championship Game.
