Alabama and Georgia are set to square off in the College Football Playoff Championship Game. Where do they rank among the rest of the playoff teams?

The College Football Playoff National Championship is about to be decided on Jan. 8. With two SEC teams taking center stage in the title game for the first time since 2011, this could be a great end to the 2017 campaign. The Alabama Crimson Tide, of the SEC West, battle the Georgia Bulldogs, out of the SEC East.

It looked unlikely that the Dawgs would advance past the Playoff Semifinals, against Heisman Trophy winner Baker Mayfield and the Oklahoma Sooners, but a huge game from the rushing attack powered them through. Alabama handled the reigning National Champion Clemson Tigers with ease.

This is the fourth edition of the Playoff, taking over in 2014 in place of the BCS system. It gives college football some added excitement through the final weeks of the regular season. The BCS system gave too much control to the computers, and a team like the 2017 Crimson Tide might not have had the chance to prove itself the way it has.

With the No. 3 and No. 4 seeds squaring off in the National Championship, it is the first time such a thing happened in the four-year history of the Playoff. The last two programs to ring in at the four or three seed, the Washington Huskies and Michigan State Spartans, were both handled by Alabama in the Semifinals in 2015 and 2016.

Here, we’re taking a look at the ranking of every single one of the 16 teams to take part in the Playoff. Not all of the potential four title winners are guaranteed for the top four spots. Although, that does play a big factor.
