The 2016 Washington Huskies entered the Playoff in a similar situation to that of 2015 Michigan State. Washington was a one-loss Power Five conference champion, defeating the PAC-12 South Champion Colorado Buffaloes in the title game.

Head coach Chris Petersen brought the Huskies to the realm of national contention, after leaving the Boise State Broncos. Even in 2017, UW was nearly a Playoff team again. A tough loss to the Arizona State Sun Devils eliminated any chance of that happening, though.

No team from the PAC-12 represented in the 2017 Playoff. The USC Trojans won the conference, but only participated in a New Year’s Six Bowl instead of the actual Playoff. The 2016 Huskies are one of only two teams to ever represent the PAC-12.

This is one of the most talented offense to ever make it to the Playoff. Quarterback Jake Browning, running back Myles Gaskin, and wide receivers John Ross and Dante Pettis forced Alabama’s secondary to be prepared for this 2016 Semifinal meeting.
