Former Oregon Ducks head coach Mark Helfrich did not have a fun time in Eugene, OR, in his final two years. But, the best season that Helfrich did have with the Ducks, by far, came in 2014, where Oregon went to the first ever College Football Playoff National Championship Game.

Superstar Ducks quarterback Marcus Mariota took the Heisman Trophy in his final season with Oregon. Mariota did more for the Ducks than most people realized, until he departed the program following the title game loss to the Buckeyes.

This was also the last good season really for the Ducks, as the program has been constantly changing since. Oregon now has its third head coach since Chip Kelly left Eugene for the NFL. Helfrich, Willie Taggart, and now Mario Cristobal are the head coaches for the Ducks since.

But, losing in the National Championship Game is never a bad result for any program (possibly outside of a Nick Saban-coached program). Oregon fans should still be proud of the 2014 campaign, despite falling short to Ohio State.
