Alabama head coach Nick Saban has now won his sixth national title, fifth with the Tide, proving to be the best to ever roam the sidelines in college football.

Nick Saban has done it. He has won his sixth national title, and fifth with Alabama, tying him with Bear Bryant as the most ever. This comes as no surprise given his success at the level and the fact that no one expected him to lose in two consecutive national title games.

A year ago, Saban watched as his Crimson Tide fell apart late in the second half and Clemson took the crown away from his team. It was an instant classic, but Saban wasn’t going to rest easy knowing that his team had the title slip out of its grasp.

How does he respond? By leading them back to the promised land in 2017 despite not winning the SEC West crown. He went one step further and helped the Tide win their fifth national title since he took over, beating the SEC champion Georgia Bulldogs.

Now does this make him the greatest college football coach of all time? Easy answer: absolutely. He has been the best recruiter the nation has seen throughout his career and he’s won national titles with two different programs — one at LSU. He also made the decision to bench his starting quarterback who was 25-2 for a true freshman with little experience in live game situations.

Tua Tagovailoa responded to his legendary head coach’s move by leading the Tide back from a scoreless first half and 13-point deficit to 26 points in the second half and overtime. That move seemed to single-handedly spark the Tide and lead them to the national title win.
