The goal at hand for a potential top 25 program in Texas A&M football is to reach the double-digit win mark and finish in the top half of the SEC West.

Texas A&M football heads into a new era for the Aggies coaching staff after coming up short to the Wake Forest Demon Deacons in a thriller 55-52, in the Belk Bowl. The postseason usually presented a chance for the Aggies to reach the eight win mark, at least since the 2014 campaign.

Former Texas A&M head football coach Kevin Sumlin signed with the Arizona Wildcats to become the next head man in Tucson. But, the Aggies did get an upgrade from Sumlin with the head coach that led the Florida State Seminoles to a National Championship in 2013, Jimbo Fisher.

The Aggies rounded out the 2017 campaign with a 7-6 (4-4 SEC). From the ups of defeating the South Carolina Gamecocks, Florida Gators, and Ole Miss Rebels, to the lows of allowing a seven-touchdown comeback from Josh Rosen and the UCLA Bruins, Texas A&M had an unusual ride in 2017.

Accustomed to hot starts through the first five or seven weeks, followed by more intense issues down the stretch, Texas A&M should be able to change that trend with Fisher at the helm. Notching a victory over the Demon Deacons would have been a great way to usher in the Fisher era for the Aggies.

However, the 2017 campaign is behind this talented SEC football program, and it’s time to move on to 2018. The upcoming college football season kicks off with the an FCS opponent in Week 1 and then the 2016 National Champion Clemson Tigers, to ramp things up, in Week 2.

Other non-conference opponents include the UAB Blazers and ULM Warhawks. It’s a manageable schedule for a first-year head coach in College Station in 2018.
