With 2018 National Signing Day approaching, it’s time to look back at some of the best prospects in recent memory. Where are they now?

Being ranked No. 1 in anything comes with big-time expectations and a colossal target placed squarely on your back.

That definitely holds true when you are deemed the top overall recruit in the nation.

Over the past 10 seasons, many of those No. 1 recruits have panned out, turning strong college careers into great runs in the NFL. For others, though, things have gone sour.

Here’s a look at the last 10 No. 1 ranked recruits according to Rivals starting with the Class of 2017:

Nick Saban and the Alabama coaching staff went across the country to land the top-ranked recruit in 2017, signing running back Najee Harris.

Harris climbed to the top spot over the likes of Florida State’s Cam Akers, Georgia’s Jake Fromm and Clemson’s Tee Higgins.

At Antioch Senior in Antioch, California, the 6-2, 222-pounder dominated on the gridiron.

Harris, though, joined a crowded backfield in Tuscaloosa this past fall, as Damien Harris and Bo Scarborough dominated the carries. As a true freshman, he still managed 61 carries in 10 games, running for 370 yards and scoring three touchdowns.

Harris averaged over six yards per carry and also had six receptions for 45 yards.

He’ll return to Alabama next year and join Damien Harris in another strong running back committee for the Crimson Tide.
