Tim Lester took over for P.J. Fleck at Western Michigan in 2017 following a 13-1 season in 2016 which concluded with a loss to Wisconsin in the Cotton Bowl. Unfortunately, the new head coach was unable to carry the success over to the 2017 campaign as the Broncos went from 13-1 to 6-6 in just one year, missing out on a bowl game.

The Broncos were one of just three bowl eligible teams to not be invited to a postseason game and a major reason for that was the injury to starting quarterback Jon Wassink. He will be back and healthy for the 2018 campaign, so the Broncos will be in much better hands.

Unfortunately for them, they will have to travel down the road to Ann Arbor to take on an angry Michigan team following a last-minute loss to Notre Dame. This one won’t be all that close as the Wolverines will shut Wassink and the rest of the Broncos’ offense down.

On top of that, Karan Higdon and Chris Evans will combine for 200 yards and Shea Patterson and Donovan Peoples-Jones hook up eight times for 130 yards and a score. Peoples-Jones will also add a punt return touchdown.

Final Score: Western Michigan 7, Michigan 38 (1-1)
