2. Cameron Buckley becomes next big Texas A&M receiver
A spot where the Aggies are getting hit hard by departures is at wide receiver. Fisher loses what would have been his best overall receiver in former All-American versatile threat Christian Kirk. In the Belk Bowl, Kirk racked up 189 receiving yards and three touchdowns. He’s going to be sorely missed by the Texas A&M faithful.
Yet, Kirk is not the only departure that’ll hurt the Aggies receiving corps. Second-leading receiver on the team, Damion Ratley, is also running out of eligibility. Two rising sophomores, Cameron Buckley and Jhamon Ausbon, will be counted on to take the openings left by Ratley and Kirk.
Ausbon did manage more receiving yards than Buckley, but they both had the same amount of touchdown receptions. Buckley caught 17 passes for 282 yards and three touchdowns on the year. Meanwhile, Ausbon finished with 50 receptions for 571 yards and three scores.
More of the focus at the start of the 2018 campaign will go on Ausbon. He’ll be the primary focus of opposing defenses. That gives the 6-foot-2 and 190 pound Buckley a shot to really make a name for himself. He’ll take full advantage of that opportunity.
