Former Wisconsin football wide receiver George Rushing has announced he will be continuing his career with the Buffalo Bulls.

The Wisconsin Badgers had one of the deepest receiving units in the Big Ten last season, earning big contributions from four wide receivers in addition to their star tight end Troy Fumagalli. The more impressive part of the unit’s success is that they were without two of their main guys- Jazz Peavy and George Rushing.

Peavy announced during the latter half of the season that he was no longer with the program, while Rushing has battled injury after injury ever since joining the program. Once deemed a receiver with some of the highest expectations to ever enter Wisconsin, a disappointing first couple of seasons got to his head. During his senior season in 2017, Rushing could not shake the injury bug, eventually falling out of the main rotation in a deep wide receiver group.

Shortly after the Badgers Big Ten championship game, Rushing announced on Twitter he would be leaving Wisconsin to pursue other opportunities.

Nearly two months later, Rushing announced on Monday, January 22 that he would be heading to the MAC school.

Many reports indicate that he was attracted to the culture with the Buffalo program and that it resembled the same sort of feel as the on the one in Madison. It was also said that Rushing developed a very close connection to head coach Lance Leipold, who was once the head coach at the University of Wisconsin-Whitewater, a Division III national powerhouse located just an hour southeast of Madison.

Rushing has graduated from Madison and will eventually join the Buffalo program as a graduate transfer and will have one year of eligibility with the Bulls. He will join former Wisconsin assistant coach Rob Ianello, who is now a member of the Bulls’ team as well.

Buffalo went 6-6 in 2017, but were one of a couple of teams to reach bowl eligibility and fail to get selected to the postseason.
