Stanford Football: Top 5 remaining 2018 recruiting targets
Tanner McKee is one of the more unusual prospects in the 2018 class. The pro-style passer from Corona, CA plans to take a two-year Mormon mission before enrolling in school in 2020. That means he won’t make an impact on the football field wherever he signs for a few more years. If his offer list alone is any indication, McKee will be worth the wait.
McKee is the fifth ranked prospect in the state of California and the No. 3 pro-style recruit in the nation. In fact, he’s the only one of the nation’s top 20 pro-style quarterbacks that has yet to announced a commitment.
Standing at 6-foot-6 and listed as a 4-star prospect, McKee’s holds 23 offers and looks to have a narrow list of contenders with one important front-runner, Stanford. If McKee does indeed sign with the Cardinal they’ll have edged out offers from Alabama, Texas, Texas A&M and Washington all of which figured to have a real shot at landing McKee at one point or another.
K.J. Costello has two more years of eligibility, opening the door for McKee to slide in at quarterback when he finally gets to campus in 2020.
