SEC Football: Power ranking every coach in the SEC
By Shelbie Warr
5. Dan Mullen and Florida
This is something I sure wasn’t expecting. Why would Dan Mullen leave his position in Starkville? He had the second most wins in Mississippi State history in his nine seasons with the Bulldogs. He produced players like Dak Prescott there. Of course, he was the quarterback coach and offensive coordinator at Florida before his time at Mississippi State, coaching guys like Tim Tebow.
The Florida program definitely has its pulls. It’s the only SEC program in the state. Florida recruiting rivals Texas recruiting. He has a strong tie to the program as he was a big part of it in recent years, including a national championship. Even with all that, I didn’t expect Mullen to end up in Gainesville when he had just signed a nice contract extension with the Bulldogs.
Either way, Mullen sits at the start of the top five in terms of SEC coaches. His precious successes as a head coach and coordinator all point to his ability to help this Florida program get back to where it was a few years ago, an SEC East Powerhouse. They have the talent, the recruiting base, and now the head coach. The question now is what they will do with all they have and who the heck will be the quarterback in 2018.
