SEC Football: Power ranking every coach in the SEC
By Shelbie Warr
4. Gus Malzahn and Auburn
Now we are into the big names, the ones that most SEC fans have heard multiple times whether you are a fan of this team or not. Let me tell you, Auburn head coach Gus Malzahn is quite the interesting character. During the season, there was talk of him returning to Arkansas if the season went south for Auburn. However, that wasn’t the case. Gus got his Tigers in the SEC Championship against Georgia and almost to the College Football Playoff.
So why isn’t he top three? For many reasons. First of all, under Gus Malzahn, Auburn has an average rank of number 50 in the nation when it comes to redzone touchdown percentage. That kind of number isn’t going to give you an SEC title. That kind of number isn’t going to consistently knock of teams like Alabama and Georgia. He also has only won one bowl game in the five seasons he has been at Auburn. Not exactly shining numbers.
This play is the highlight of Gus Malzahn’s career at Auburn. If you haven’t seen it or just want to watch it again, you’re welcome because I have included it just for you. It will be interesting to see what Malzahn does next season as many fans are calling for his firing, despite a recent contract extension.
