This week of the College Football‘s 5th Quarter brings you five topics from around the world of college football before National Signing Day.

The week of College Football’s National Signing Day the first Wednesday in February used to be full of anticipation and excitement. Recruiting bloggers would be looking for last-minute scoops while coaches pray that players sign with their program.

With the new early signing period in December, Feb. 7, 2018 is just another day in college football. There aren’t a ton of high-profile players still floating around and most signing classes are all but locked up a week before the big day.

Around college football, though, there are some major stories brewing. In Nebraska, Scott Frost‘s first workouts proved to be too much for the Cornhuskers as two players became ill and were hospitalized. Shaquem Griffin, the UCF standout rush linebacker has been invited to the NFL Combine workouts after a stellar Senior Bowl showing. Justin Fuente has received his second raise and contract extension in only two years at the helm of the Virginia Tech Hokies. New transfer rules are being thrown around that would allow players to leave without sitting out a year if their coach leaves or is fired.

In more serious news, the Michigan State Larry Nassar scandal has hit us all very hard across the world of college athletics and humanity. The ramifications to the NCAA or Michigan State are yet unknown but there are over 100 victims all from just one man. Allegations at MSU have sprawled out to include the football and basketball programs as well.

Here are the five major topics from the week before National Signing Day
