With 2018 National Signing Day approaching, who are the top five remaining recruiting targets for Florida State football and Willie Taggart?
Willie Taggart took over Florida State with one goal in mind: winning the national title. Although he had spent just one year with the Oregon Ducks, he never expected the Florida State position to open up and present him with his dream job. He jumped at the opportunity.
Florida State has plenty of talent returning from the 2017 team thanks to Jimbo Fisher, but no one expected the Seminoles to finish the year with a measly 7-6 record after starting in the top five.
Taggart will try to lead this team back to the promised land and that starts with finishing the 2018 recruiting class off on a high note.
Who are Florida State’s top five remaining targets for 2018 National Signing Day?
Arguably the top player left on the market is five-star cornerback Patrick Surtain Jr. from Fort Lauderdale, Fla. He’s the No. 1 cornerback in the class, per 247Sports, and the No. 6 overall recruit. While Florida State doesn’t have the best chance to keep him close to him, the Seminoles are going to hope he makes the decision to stay close to home.
It wasn’t long ago that Florida State was one of his leaders, but since then, Alabama and LSU have sprinted ahead and it looks like a two-team race.
Out of those team teams, it seems as if LSU has the best chance to land him and he really can’t go wrong with any of the schools on his list as they all play great defense. Willie Taggart may not have had enough time to make an impression on Surtain Jr. after Jimbo Fisher’s departure, which could play a role in his decision.
The 6-foot-1, 200-pound cornerback held offers from just about every major program — 32 programs in total.
