Nicholas Petit-Frere, a five-star offensive tackle from Tampa, Fla., committed to Ohio State football on Wednesday afternoon.

The momentum that Ohio State gained with five-star offensive tackle Nicholas Petit-Frere was uncanny. He seemed to be a lock to remain close to home and pick the Florida Gators, but a recent visit to Columbus along with Urban Meyer putting on the full-court press changed his mind.

The Buckeyes got his last official visit on Feb. 2 and that was all the difference. He decided to head up north to play for the national contender instead of staying with Dan Mullen and the home-state Gators.

Petit-Frere’s commitment has Ohio State firmly in second place in the 247Sports composite team rankings, just two points behind No. 1 Georgia. Will his commitment help boost the Buckeyes back into first place by the end of the day?

Honestly, probably not. Meyer should be relatively happy with the second-best recruiting class in the country, especially since Kirby Smart and the Bulldogs have been almost untouchable this cycle. The Buckeyes kept up with Georgia for most of the cycle and even led for a decent stretch.

Ohio State still has a chance to land a couple more top prospects such as four-star defensive end Javontae Jean-Baptiste, three-star running back Tavion Thomas, three-star athlete Jermaine Eskridge and four-star tackle Rasheed Walker.

Georgia has essentially locked up that No. 1 class and the Buckeyes are sitting pretty at No. 2. The commitment of Petit-Frere may be one of Meyer’s biggest recruiting victories in recent memory.

The Buckeyes have locked up that No. 1 class in the Big Ten and they have a future star on the offensive line.
