Making a big impact for the 2018 edition of National Signing Day is one of the first steps for a potentially big year for UCLA football.

UCLA football already had a ton of momentum on the recruiting trail. And, that was before they had the chance to round out their first recruiting class with first-year Bruins head coach Chip Kelly. It’s crunch time for UCLA, especially with their hype level entering the 2018 campaign among the favorites to win the PAC-12 South.

National Signing Day 2018 could be great for UCLA, if a decent haul is on the horizon. In total, UCLA has 24 commits in the 2018 class, with a good portion of them still listed as hard commits. However, of those 24 commits, none of them enrolled early and eight signed their Letter of Intent. That leaves 16 prospects still as hard commits entering the final day for rival programs to poach them.

Nine of UCLA’s 24 commits are four-stars, the rest are three-stars. The top overall commit in this class is four-star dual-threat quarterback from Las Vegas, NV, Dorian Thompson-Robinson. That is a prospect the Bruins make sure they hang onto throughout NSD.

There’s a chance that the Kelly hiring brings a few more prospects to choose UCLA as their destination for their college career. He’s one of a few polarizing coaching signs made in the final stretch of the 2017 season, and through the beginning of the off-season.

UCLA ranks as the No. 16 class in the nation, as of Feb. 6, and the fourth best in the PAC-12. They do have the opportunity to lead the Oregon Ducks in the team rankings with a big NSD.

Here’s three storylines to follow for the UCLA Bruins on National Signing Day 2018.
