1. Does Dorian Thompson-Robinson start in 2018?

The two quarterbacks in the race for the starting UCLA job are Thompson-Robinson and rising sophomroe Devon Modster. Thompson-Robinson possesses more flat-out talent, but Modster has the experience factor of getting two years to learn under Rosen.

It’s likely that Kelly makes the move to go with the more experienced quarterback at the outset. However, Thompson-Robinson is a perfect fit for the up tempo offensive scheme that Kelly likes to run. He’s a great land for an offense moving in the direction of a spread option.

Either quarterback will have a short leash under Kelly. Thompson-Robinson’s confidence might be fragile in his freshman campaign, but Modster might not be the long-term answer for this program. There’s a lot at stake for this quarterback battle.

At some point, we’re likely to see Thompson-Robinson in the starting spotlight in a big PAC-12 matchup for the Bruins. Before that can happen, the Bruins have to lock up Thompson-Robinson, who the Michigan Wolverines are still pursuing.
