3. Litchfield Ajavon, ATH

Litchfield Ajavon, a four star athlete currently attending Episcopal High School in Alexandria, Va., is one of the hardest hitting safeties at his level. Ajavon’s film displays an exceptional nose for the football, one that puts him in the middle of the action on nearly every play.

In terms of Ajavon’s place on the team, it may be a while before he sees the field consistently. Heading into the 2018 season, the Irish will have senior Nick Watkins, juniors Jalen Elliott, Alohi Gilman, and Devin Studstill, and sophomores Jordan Genmark-Heath and Isaiah Robertson competing for snaps at safety. In addition, both Derrik Allen and Paul Moala will join as freshmen.

With that said, there seems to be little room for Ajavon at the safety position until possibly his junior year. However, the Irish have been known to implement the rover position from time to time, a spot that will be vacant when captain Drue Tranquill departs at the end of next year. Considering Ajavon’s style of play, he’s about 30 pounds away from claiming that role as his own.

While it’s fun to imagine Ajavon’s role on the team at this point in time, just about anything can happen between now and when he potentially suits up for the Irish. As of now, Notre Dame seems to be the front-runners to land Ajavon, giving the Irish plenty to think about when rolling out their starters in 2020.
