Texas A&M football has sewn up its 2018 recruiting class but just how well did the Aggies and Jimbo Fisher fare, by position?
Jimbo Fisher has wrangled his first Texas A&M recruiting class and there’s plenty of excitement surrounding the program. He landed a number of top targets on National Signing Day and the future looks bright in College Station.
How does the Texas A&M 2018 recruiting class grade out, by position?
Offensive Line: A
One of Texas A&M’s top recruits happens to be an early enrollee offensive tackle, but does he truly have a chance to earn playing time in 2018? Absolutely, but Colten Blanton will have to fight for snaps as the Aggies are returning just about everyone to the offensive line.
The four-star tackle from Cypress, Texas, is one of just two early enrollees, but that gives him a major leg up on the rest of the impressive group. He stands 6-foot-7 and weighs 285 pounds and has the strength and motor to compete for a spot in the rotation, even if he will be just a true freshman. He’s ranked the No. 97 overall recruit and eighth-best tackle in the class, per 247Sports. He was also named an Army All-American.
Tank Jenkins is another gem on that line, committing to the Aggies on National Signing Day. He picked A&M over Oklahoma, Auburn and Ole Miss, among others, and really provides some strength to the guard position. The 6-foot-3, 325-pound behemoth is ranked the No. 221 prospect and ninth-best guard in the class.
Another Army All-American, four-star guard Luke Matthews could also push for snaps. He stands 6-foot-4 and weighs 305 pounds, making him quite a load at the position. He’s ranked the No. 228 player and 10th-best guard in the class out of Missouri City, Texas.
Lastly, Barton Clement, a three-star guard, could be a difference-maker as well. He stands 6-foot-3 and 315 pounds and delivers a punch off the snap of the ball that could leave any defender dazed and confused. He’s listed as the No. 381 prospect in the class and the 18th-best guard, also from Missouri City.
This could be the best offensive line class in school history.
