The possibility of Arkansas football landing an elite 2019 quarterback prospect just went up. Razorback legacy Grant Gunnell has reopened his recruitment.

Grant Gunnell, a 4-star quarterback from Houston, Texas is back on the market. After committing to Texas A&M during the Kevin Sumlin and Noel Mazzone tenure, Gunnell has chosen to reconsider his options following the coaching change that took place in College Station this winter.

He shared this news via Twitter, making note that he would still consider the Aggies moving forward.

Arkansas is in the midst of a coaching transition of their own, but the future for the Razorbacks is bright under new head coach Chad Morris. Gunnell would be the perfect passer to plug into Morris’ spread attack. His cannon arm makes him one of the most prized quarterback recruits in the country, and he would easily be the crown jewel of the Razorbacks’ 2019 class.

Morris’ attempts to nab the elite passer from Texas aren’t a shot in the dark. Beyond the system, Gunnell has strong ties to the university itself. Both of his parents graduated from Arkansas and his grandfather played on the Hogs’ national championship team in 1964.

A player as talented as Gunnell will have his pick from schools all over the SEC and beyond. This is going to be a battle all spring and possibly into the fall. Gunnell is also considering the LSU Tigers, who despite their offensive struggles, still seem to find a way to bring in top-flight quarterback talent.

His decommitment from the Aggies is proof that he’s willing to listen. For now, Arkansas is in position to give Gunnell their best offer.  If they can get the Houston native on campus they’ll have a shot to pull off an absolute coup.
