Conclusion

Determining the outcome of the 2018 campaign for the Ole Miss football program ultimately boils down to the play of the defense. When the Rebels are playing at a high level defensively, they’re always a threat to win at least eight games.

Even with a down season on that side of the ball in 2017, Ole Miss still managed seven wins. And, that was all while the quarterback situation was in flux. Any team that lost their star quarterback halfway through a grueling SEC West grind would have seemingly been toast.

Luke instills a lot of fight in his squads, and that was on full display last year. Another big year from Ta’amu, or Corral for that matter, and the run defense stepping up can help the Rebels out a ton. The incoming freshmen class also has to buy into the culture that Luke is putting in place.

So, what is the ceiling for the Rebels in 2018? Winnable contests come against the Texas Tech Red Raiders, Kent State Golden Flashes, Louisiana-Monroe Warhawks, Vanderbilt Commodores, Southern Illinois Salukis, the Razorbacks, and Commodores. Win the games that their supposed to, and give some of the top teams in the conference a run for their money and Ole Miss has an even better time in 2018 than they did last year.

Way-too-early projected record: 8-4
