2. Unwavering support in any situation, for any game

The amount of patience exhibited by Iowa State’s fans in the past decade shows they deserve the solid result from their football program in 2017. Head coach Matt Campbell became one of the hottest names on the coaching market, but decided to stay in Ames.

Iowa State had one of the biggest turnarounds of any team in the nation from 2016 to 2017. An eight win campaign concluded with a tight one point victory over the Memphis Tigers in the AutoZone Liberty Bowl. It was a great way to cap off a good story for the Clones surprise breakout season.

Fans could have easily turned their back on Iowa State football after four straight years of no more than three wins per season. In fact, the last time that the Clones won a bowl game previous to the 2017 Liberty Bowl was against the Minnesota Golden Gophers in the 2009 Insight Bowl. That postseason victory also came by a slim one point margin.

Iowa State actually finished behind only the Oklahoma Sooners and the Texas Longhorns in the Big 12 in terms of average attendance. The Clones racked up an average attendance of 57,931 per game. That was just ahead of the Oklahoma State Cowboys, who averaged 56,790 fans per game.
