Louisville Football: Lamar Jackson has bright future at QB in the NFL
In a spate of weirdness, Indianapolis Colts GM Bill Polian opined that Heisman trophy winner Lamar Jackson should switch positions to wide receiver.
Bill Polian said that Lamar Jackson is short and has questionable passing ability.
“Short and a little bit slight. Clearly, not the thrower that the other guys are. The accuracy isn’t there.” He then went on to state that Jackson should play wide receiver instead, per ProFootballTalk.
OK, at 6-foot-3 and 211 pounds, Jackson is a bit shorter than the average NFL gunslinger, but it’s not like the guy is 5-foot-8.
I have honestly never heard anything so silly in my life. Seth Galina over at SB Nation stated that Polian’s comments are due to Jackson not looking like the “typical” NFL quarterback.
It’s silly because Jackson is awesome. According to Bleacher Report in 2016, Lamar Jackson threw for 3,543 yards and 30 touchdowns. In 2017, he threw for 3,660 yards and 27 touchdowns. He won the ACC Player of the Year two years running. In 2016, he won the Heisman Trophy as well as the Maxwell and Walter Camp Player of the Year Awards.

Moreover, it’s silly because Jackson’s accuracy is at 59 percent — that is better than quarterbacks who are projected to do well in the NFL, namely Wyoming’s Josh Allen and UCLA’s Josh Rosen. Only Baker Mayfield of Oklahoma and Mason Rudolph of Oklahoma State threw better than Jackson did in college, and they are first-round draft picks. Jackson can also run like the wind, which should more than make up for any supposed deficiencies in height.
In addition, Drew Brees is the same height as Jackson and did just fine in the NFL, thank you very little.
It’s silly because obviously, Polian has an issue with Jackson — this isn’t the first time he has said something this asinine about him. No, Jackson is not the best quarterback of this year’s draft, but to say that he doesn’t have a career at quarterback in front of him is not only ridiculous, it’s just an ill-advised, poor analysis of a talented young man.
Michael Vick seems to agree.

I cannot augur the future, but Jackson has the ability and the speed to become a dual-threat quarterback in the NFL. Polian needs to keep his mouth shut.
