After an injury-riddled 2017 season, can former freshman sensation Trayveon Williams bounce back for Texas A&M in 2018?

When Trayveon Williams suffered an injury in the first couple weeks of the season, all seemed to be lost for Texas A&M.

Sure, the 34-point blown lead against UCLA attributed to this feeling, but the Aggies’ inability to stay healthy at the most important positions on the field was concerning. First it was Nick Starkel and then Williams.

Williams rushed for 203 yards and two touchdowns on 22 carries against the Bruins and looked to be right back on track to reach 1,000 yards for the second consecutive season to start his collegiate career.

Then the injuries hit. He would miss the Louisiana game and would record over 15 carries just four more times through the rest of the season.

The sophomore finished the 2017 season with 798 yards and eight touchdowns on 4.6 yards per touch, falling short of his freshman numbers. He rushed for 1,057 yards, eight touchdowns and 6.8 yards per carry the season before. Can he return to that dominant form in 2018?

With a 5-foot-9, 200-pound frame, Williams is capable of absorbing contact and he doesn’t go down easily. Assuming he can stay healthy in 2018, he will be Jimbo Fisher’s workhorse and 1,000 yards would be the bare minimum expectation.

Fisher wants his running backs to be more physical and Williams has shown that ability in his young career, so expect him to surpass 200 carries this season and finish with over 1,250 yards and 10 touchdowns.

The only thing that could potentially hold the junior back from being one of the top backs in the nation is his health.

Williams has the talent of an All-SEC performer and with a revamped offense under Fisher, don’t be shocked to see him have a monster season in the maroon and white.
