UCLA football closed its 2018 recruiting class on a high note. Which incoming freshmen could become starters for Chip Kelly and the Bruins?

It’s not easy to come in and steer a program toward a top-20 recruiting class in just a couple of months, but Chip Kelly did just that. The former Oregon head coach, who left for the NFL, is now back in the Pac-12 leading the UCLA Bruins.

This is bad news for the rest of the conference as he has experienced winning conference titles and has even made a national championship appearance. Will he be able to mold this incoming top-20 recruiting class into the next Pac-12 national title contender?

Which five incoming freshmen could start for the Bruins in 2018?

Four-star outside linebacker Bo Calvert looks the part of a strong blitzing linebacker with no regard for would-be blockers. He’s quick off the snap, gets low enough to where offensive linemen have a tough time getting two outstretched arms on him and makes his way to opposing quarterbacks with relative ease.

Although he comes in as a linebacker, he has played some defensive end and has plenty of versatility in that regard.

Kenny Young is graduating and leaving a spot open at outside linebacker which could be Calvert’s calling. The 6-foot-3.5, 218-pound outside backer from Westlake Village, Calif., is an Army All-American and proved he can play at a high level against elite competition.

Don’t be surprised to see him earn a spot in the rotation to start and eventually become the No. 1 outside linebacker. He’s ranked the No. 170 recruit and 16th-best outside linebacker in the class, per 247Sports.
