UCLA Football: 5 incoming freshmen who could start in 2018
Whoever has to follow the act that Josh Rosen put together in his three years at UCLA has plenty to live up to. The early favorite has to be sophomore Devon Modster who pieced together a strong finish to the 2017 season with 484 yards and two touchdowns in the final two games.
Modster finished the season with 671 yards and four touchdowns with a 65 percent completion rate and no interceptions. That’s not too shabby for a freshman thrust into action when Rosen went down with an injury. Could he hold off an incoming four-star dual-threat by the name of Dorian Thompson-Robinson?
It won’t be easy, that’s for sure.
Thompson-Robinson has been considered by many to be the future of the program and Chip Kelly has done exceptionally well with dual-threats before — just ask Marcus Mariota. The Las Vegas recruit starred at Bishop Gorman and backed up Tate Martell, now at Ohio State, for a couple of years before getting his shot, and he didn’t disappoint.
Modster and Thompson-Robinsinon are going to have one heck of a quarterback battle this summer and fall. As the Bruins’ top-rated signee in 2018, Thompson-Robinson is ranked the No. 36 recruit in the class and second-best dual-threat.
