The highest-rated of all early enrollees, Tyreke Johnson has to feel good about his chances to contend with Isaiah Pryor for Damon Webb’s vacant spot at safety.

Johnson, a five-star from Jacksonville, Fla., had to feel good about his chances to compete for a starting job when he enrolled early. Webb put in some quality time as a Buckeye but his graduation marks the start of a new era at the position.

Both Pryor and Johnson are top-100 recruits and the former already has a year of experience at the collegiate level under his belt. He was waiting for this position to open up, but will he truly be the best option of the two when spring ball is over?

The Buckeyes can rest easy knowing they have two viable options. Ohio State has a strong history of sending defensive backs to the NFL via the first round, especially under Urban Meyer, and Johnson has the potential to follow suit.
